In Madrid’s elegant Barrio de Salamanca, Casa Ambrose redefines home as a place of calm, permanence, and quiet innovation. Designed by Plantea for Home of Ambrose, the project answers a brief for “the ideal home”—one that balances serenity and vitality, tradition and modernity.
Once a compartmentalised early 20th-century flat on Calle Castelló, the apartment was opened to create a light-filled plan: a generous living, dining, and work area runs along three west-facing balconies, while the kitchen, vestibule, and service rooms occupy an adjacent bay. Three substantial columns, echoing primal architecture, mediate the spaces, defining them without interrupting flow.
Crossing an entrance paved with handmade clay tiles, visitors encounter the elegance of Layers Douglas flooring. Wide 300 mm planks extend through the interiors, unifying functions with a light, reddish hue.
The craftsmanship continues in bespoke pieces: a solid Douglas desk, inspired by Donald Judd, defines the work zone, while a TV cabinet in the same wood grounds the living area alongside design classics. A wood-lined corridor and integrated cabinetry resonate the material’s honest warmth.
Stone, clay, steel, and art enrich the scheme, offering a mix of timeless references with fresh gestures like the stainless-steel kitchen island. The result is a gently balanced home – rooted in tradition yet looking forward.
