A chair crafted from what the floor left behind

There is a symmetry in the choice of Dinesen Douglas for the limited-edition TAKT Forma Chair. The first Forma Chair was presented in Douglas fir at The Cabinetmakers' Autumn Exhibition in 2024. Now, the chair returns to its original material, giving surplus wood from Dinesen's plank production a new life in a different form.

Somewhere between architecture and furniture, the boundaries begin to blur. Both create a framework for everyday life, albeit at very different scales. Dinesen and Danish furniture company TAKT explore this territory with a limited-edition Forma Chair, designed by Lysemose & de Gier. Crafted from Dinesen Douglas offcuts, the chair gives new purpose to surplus material while making its distinctive character integral to the design.

For TAKT, Douglas was there from the beginning. The Forma Chair was originally developed in Douglas fir, and returning to the material feels, in the words of TAKT CEO Martin Qvist Lorensen, “less like creating a new version and more like revealing something that was there from the beginning”.

The chair’s precise, architectural geometry creates a subtle framework for the wood’s expressive grain and softness. Its construction remains legible, allowing both the material and the logic of its construction to speak for themselves.

The collaboration brings together two perspectives on the same material. Dinesen’s knowledge begins with the tree and follows the qualities of wood across large dimensions and over time.TAKT approaches wood through the intimate scale of everyday life, through construction, touch, repairability and longevity.
