Vores Sted (Our Place) – An Initiative from Realdania
A House for the Community
Imagine a place where the door is always open. A place created in the spirit of community, built in wood that carries the traces of life, stories, and transformation. Vores Sted (Our Place) is Realdania's gift to Denmark: 150 community spaces sprouting up in cities and rural areas where people can gather, create, share, and dream together.
Realdania's philosophy is to enhance the quality of life for everyone through the built environment. To celebrate their 25th anniversary, they initiated Vores Sted. It focuses on creating space—for each other, for ideas, and for local communities that want to achieve something together.
The Four Spaces
Fællestaget, Naturbasen, Værkstedet, and Udestuen are sketched in a collaboration between the architectural studios Reværk, Cobe, Archival Studies, Pihlmann Architects, Rumgehør, and Studio XYZ. The buildings serve as open invitations for communal meals under the sky, trips into the landscape, crafting with hands, repairing with care, play, connection, and growth. There is room for spontaneous laughter, deep conversation, quiet moments, and buzzing crowds.
Each community space incorporates a sustainability aspect by utilising recycled and surplus materials. The majority of the construction contains recycled wood, tiles, and roofing. Moreover, the spaces are designed to endure and be utilised for many years. If a community space reaches a point where it must be dismantled, the construction design allows for easy disassembly, maximising the potential for recycling materials in the structure.
Dinesen committed to supplying 500 m³ of leftover wood and third-sorting planks to support the initiative. Douglas and Pine are added to enrich these spaces with genuine materiality, warmth, and a sense of well-being. The design reflects a respect for nature and lived experience. The recycled wood structure, which repurposes leftover pieces and planks, leaves the air infused with the scent of sawdust, embodying responsibility and community in its purest form.
The First of Its Kind
Udestuen - opened on 28 April 2025 in Tønder, Southern Jutland. It is a bright, open house for cultivation, play, and socialising. Udestuen is gifted to Tønder Unge- og Kulturråd, meant for young people to meet for all purposes: homework, jam nights, creative workshops, or simply hanging out – in the hopes of building new friendships, learning skills, developing ideas, and more.
The following community spaces are in Thisted and Lemvig and will be completed in May 2025. Construction will continue around the country from 2025 to 2027.
